S3
Flow
Lie face down with the WAV on the ground above your head. Place your hands on top of the WAV with elbows bent roughly to 90 degrees. Slide your hands along the WAV towards the midline and back out. Roll your hands open until your palms face each other. Upright your spine and lift your chest off the floor with your gaze searching over the horizon of the WAV. Lower your chest back to the ground and flatten your palms.
Focus
Achieve ideal shoulder integration and thoracic uprighting through tactile system stimulation. This movement provides a formal introduction of and foyer into distal versus proximal lines of pull.
Cues
VERBAL: Follow your gaze to the horizon and lengthen in all directions fully exploring the movement.
BE MINDFUL: Feel how the contact through the pinky side of your hand allows your trunk to reach through space. * Are your hands keeping contact with the WAV as your body expands into space? * To reach through your hands and feet to prepare your mid back for movement.
WAV INTERACTION: Explore texture changes of the WAV and use the tactile feedback to further explore your movement. * Keep calm and quiet.
Common Compensations
- Breath Hold/Valsalva
- Decentration - Cervical Reclination
- Elevated/Adducted Scapula/Shoulder Girdle
- Decentration - Plantar Region
Modifications
AMPLIFY: Close your eyes and extend one arm overhead while stabilizing with the other.
MINIFY: Maintain neutral spine and elongate upper body.
