S2
Flow
Lie on your side. Bend both knees and hips to roughly 90 degrees with your feet flexed maintaining a small space between the ground and your trunk. Your head may rest on a pillow for support. Place the WAV on the floor inline with your bottom knee and foot. Reach both arms in front you. Bend your bottom elbow to 90 degrees with your palm facing you. Feel grounded through the bottom leg and arm. Roll your trunk and top limbs together away from the WAV as one unit while the bottom limb remains fixed. As you roll back to the starting position, rotate the bottom palm towards the floor.
Focus
Facilitate proper rotational dynamics through proper core stabilization coupled with precise and accurate differentiation. Explore the relationship between external rotators and adductors at both hip and shoulder joints. This is a progression from S1 core stabilization.
Cues
VERBAL: Move with a cooperative effort of both the front and back halves of your body.
BE MINDFUL: To remain grounded through your bottom leg and arm. * Does your bottom leg maintain contact with the WAV? * Feel the synergy between your bottom grounding side and mobilizing top side keeping the integrity of your shape.
WAV INTERACTION: Find integrity between cooperating sides of your body by keeping your bottom leg in contact with the WAV. When contact is lost, it's the end of your range of motion. * Keep calm and quiet.
Common Compensations
- Breath Hold/Valsalva
- Decentration - Thoracolumbar junction
- Decentration - Cervical Reclination
- Elevated/Adducted Scapula/Shoulder Girdle
Modifications
AMPLIFY: Hinge in slight walking position on top leg before close.
MINIFY: Decrease ROM, resting top hand on knee.
